A
first for Surrey
.
The
launch of a campaign for the first ever school in Surrey
to self-fund its very own expansion, kicked-off at October's
Ripley Farmers Market.
The Ripley Church of England Primary School is currently an infant school
but is under application to extend into a primary school.
The governors, parents and teachers are campaigning hard
to raise funds from within the local Ripley Community.
At present there is no government money available for
capital developments of this sort either through the County
Council or the Church so the school must provide all the
funding required. Currently, there is a shortfall of £80,000.
The
children of the school spent an entire Saturday morning
in uniform (!!) handing out leaflets to the local residents
to raise the issue and to also promote all the upcoming
fundraising events including a Village Christmas Market
and Community Football Tournament and Balloon Race.
As
eager as the parents are for the primary school to commence
in September 2008, the Year 2 children are equally hopeful:
"I
really want to stay at Ripley School. It is nice there
because you get a big playground. You get to have choosing
there. It is a very nice school. I would really really
like to stay there because the teachers are really nice
and you get a treat if you get 20 beads. PLEASE PLEASE
HELP US GET MORE MONEY! - Nadia Fernandes
"I
am 6 years old and my name is Hannah. I am in Blue class,
Year 2. I would like the school to become bigger because
I like schools that are big and with lots of children.
I like big schools because we can meet new friends. I
like big schools because I get to know new teachers."
- Hannah Mohammed
"My
name is Lauren and I am 6. I would like to stay at Ripley
School because I want to stay with all my friends. All
the teachers smile a lot and I like that. - Lauren
Barry
"Ripley
should go through to a Junior school because it will make
the children happy and the teachers and classroom assistants
are nice." - TJ Marke
"I
like Ripley school because I like playing in the playground
with all my friends and I like my teachers. I don't want
to leave because I will miss all of my friends."
- Felicity Holder
