As a state-funded
school, Ripley is required to teach under the framework
of the National Curriculum. This framework divides the
taught curriculum into 2 main areas, the Core Subjects
and the Foundation Subjects. The Core Subjects are English,
Maths, Science and ICT .
Your child will take
national tests at the end of Key Stages 2 and 3. The tests
are intended to show if your child is working at, above
or below the target level for their age. This helps the
school to make plans for their future learning. It also
allows schools to see whether they are teaching effectively
by comparing their pupils' performance to national results.
Key
Stage 1 teacher assessments, tasks and tests
Teacher assessment
for seven year olds covers:
- reading
- writing
- speaking and listening
- maths
- science
These assessments
take account of how your child performed in Key Stage
1 tasks and tests for seven year olds. The tasks and tests
cover:
- reading
- writing (including
handwriting and spelling)
- maths
The tasks and tests
can be taken at a time the school chooses. They last for
less than three hours altogether. The results are not
reported separately but are used to help the teacher assess
your child's work. By the age of seven, most children
are expected to achieve level 2.
The teacher assessment
is moderated by your local authority. This is to make
sure teachers make consistent assessments of children's
work.

Pre-School
Ripley Pre-School
provides a safe, friendly and stimulating environment
for children from the age of 3.
The Foundation Stage
"Early Learning Goals" curriculum specified
by the Department for Education and Employment (DfES)
is followed by the playgroup.
This comprises six
areas of learning:
- Language, Literacy
and Communication
- Creative Development
- Mathematical Development
- Knowledge and Understanding
of the World
- Personal, Social
and Emotional Development
All activities are
"play" led so children enjoy the various resources
that help with personal development. Each term follows
a "theme" to consolidate the learning experience
and provide the widest possible foundation for your child's
future learning.
Parents will receive
a "Playgroup Report" on the progress of their
child at the end of each term. Keyworkers and Supervisors
welcome Parents and carers input and regular two-way discussions
on individual child development are encouraged.
Ripley Pre-School
opens from 8.45am to 12.15pm and 12.30pm to 3pm Monday
to Friday and follows Ripley CofE Infant School's term
dates and inset days.
Government funded
places available for 3 and 4 year olds. For a full Pre-school
prospectus please contact Anna Healey on 01483 225 307.
