Admissions

The following Admissions Policy is used when applications for admission to the school exceed the Published Admission Number – currently 28.

Pupils are admitted in the following order of priority:

1. Looked After Children:
   Children who are registered as being in the care of a local authority (for example, fostered or living in a children’s home).
2. Exceptional Arrangements:
   Exceptional arrangements may apply if:
• the school is specifically identified in a child’s statement of education need
• there are medical reasons for choosing a particular school
• in rare cases the requirements of an educational supervision order or arising from permanent exclusion from school.
3. Siblings:
   Children who have a brother or sister attending the school are given priority.
4. Children for whom the school is the nearest to their home:
   The nearest school is defined as the school closest to their home address admitting pupils of the appropriate age range. The distance is measured, in a straight line, from the address point of the pupil’s house, as set by Ordnance Survey, to the nearest school gate available for pupils to use.  This is calculated using the Admissions and Transport Team’s Geographical Information System.  Parents should note that if they apply for free transport different criteria apply and the distances from home to school may be measured using a different route.
5. Any other applicants:
   Distance from home to school, measured as above will apply within each category as a means of prioritising places.

Pre-Rising 5’s

Ripley Church of England Primary School admits pupils full time (apart for the first week when children will only attend until 12 noon) from the September of the academic year in which they will be 5 if the parents wish.  This is earlier than required by law and parents are advised to consider whether this is the appropriate option for their child. The Headteacher will be happy to discuss alternatives with parents.
